The Music of Heinrich Schütz
At 7 pm, Brandeis Professor Eric Chafe, Victor and Gwendolyn Beinfield, Professor of Music, and guests will present and discuss Schütz’ musical interpretation of texts from both Jewish and Christian perspectives.
At 8:30 pm, Brandeis students in the University Chorus, the Chamber Choir, and the Early Music Ensemble, under the direction of Professors Sarah Mead and James Olesen, will be joined by some of Boston’s remarkable professional early music singers and instrumentalists in a performance of Schütz cantatas featuring brass and strings

This farcical domestic comedy features arranged marriages, dowries, feuding sisters, tangled circumstances, banishment to convents, and misdirected romantic aspirations. Inspired in part by Hogarth’s painting series “Marriage-à-la-Mode,” it lives as a musical bridge between Mozart and Rossini, with lyrical melodies and brilliant, challenging ensembles.
